Product Scraping ​

Instead of uploading a file, you can build a product feed straight from your website: VWAM reads your product pages for you, keeps them up to date, and uses what it finds to help your assistant answer shopper questions. This article explains how to import products from a URL, how your pages stay current, and how scraped page content helps your assistant.

Before you start ​

You need the web address of your online store (a link that starts with http:// or https://). You do not need a file, a spreadsheet, or any technical setup.

Import products from a URL ​

  1. Open the VerifyProducts page and start a new import.
  2. Choose the option to import from a website. VerifyImport from URL

VWAM then does the following automatically:

  • Creates a feed for you. A new product feed is created and named after your website's domain (for example, importing from www.example.com creates a feed called "Example"). You can rename it later.
  • Finds your product pages. VWAM looks through your site to discover individual product pages.
  • Reads each product page. It visits each product page one at a time to pull in details like the title, price, and description.

For larger catalogs, a first batch of products (around 25) becomes available quickly so you can start using them, while the rest continue importing in the background. Smaller catalogs import in a single pass.

If the import doesn't work ​

Depending on your site, you may see one of these messages:

  • The site blocks automated visits. Some websites are set up to block automated readers. If you see this, ask whoever manages your site to allow VWAM's reader, or import your products another way (for example, by uploading a file). Verifyexact wording of the blocked-site message
  • The website couldn't be reached. Double-check the web address for typos and try again.
  • The address isn't valid. Make sure the link starts with http:// or https:// and includes a full site address.
  • No products were found. VWAM couldn't identify product pages on that address. Try pasting a link to a page that lists your products, or import your products another way.

Your products stay current automatically ​

Once your products are imported, you don't have to re-import them to keep prices and details fresh.

VWAM re-reads your product pages on a regular schedule, roughly once a week. Any product page that hasn't been checked recently is read again automatically, so changes you make on your website — like a new price or an updated description — flow into your feed on their own. There's nothing you need to do to keep this running.

If you need details refreshed sooner than the automatic schedule, you can re-import the feed from its web address at any time. Verifythe menu action that re-runs an import for an existing feed

How scraped pages help your assistant ​

VWAM doesn't just capture a product's title and price. It also reads the full content of each product page and makes that text available to your assistant.

This means your assistant can answer shopper questions using what's actually written on your product pages — details like materials, sizing guidance, care instructions, features, and other specifics that live in the page description rather than in a single price or title field. The result is answers grounded in your own product information.

This happens automatically as part of importing and re-reading your pages. The more complete and descriptive your product pages are, the more your assistant has to draw on when helping shoppers.
