Show cards for products mentioned in answers
You can show product cards when your assistant discusses products from your catalog, including products that it compares or advises against.
Before you start
Connect a product collection to your assistant. The reference card setting is off by default, so your assistant does not show these cards until you turn it on.
Turn on reference cards
- Open your assistant in the builder.
- Select the Products tab.
- Open the Display section.
- Turn on Show cards for products mentioned in answers.
Your change saves automatically. Supported chat answers can now show cards for the catalog products that the assistant discusses.
How reference cards work
An answer can show up to 20 unique reference cards. Each product appears once in an answer. A later answer can show the same product again.
A reference card means that the answer discussed the product. It does not mean that the assistant recommends the product. For example, a comparison can show cards for both products when the assistant recommends one and advises against the other.
Your assistant can also show cards for products that it discusses using information from uploaded documents. Use the exact catalog product title in your document. The assistant omits a card when the connected collection has no available product with that title. It also omits cards for ambiguous titles.
The Max Products setting controls the number of recommendation cards. It does not reduce the 20-card reference limit.
Reference cards do not appear in these experiences:
- Inventory answers keep their existing product display.
- The standalone Product Q&A block keeps its existing product display.
Understand the product card types
| Card type | When it appears | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Reference card | A supported answer mentions a catalog product and the reference card setting is on. | The answer discussed the product. The card is not an endorsement. |
| Recommendation card | Your assistant selects a product as a recommendation. | The product is part of the assistant's recommendation. The Max Products setting controls the count. |
| Pinned behavior card | A configured behavior runs and pins one of the products that you selected for that behavior. | The behavior deliberately shows your selected product. Its triggers control when it appears. |
Turn off Show cards for products mentioned in answers when you want answers to keep showing recommendation and pinned behavior cards without the additional reference cards.
Show product cards in the shopper's language
Product cards follow the language of your assistant's reply. If the assistant answers in French, the cards under that answer are in French too. This applies to recommendation, reference, and pinned behavior cards.
What changes on each card:
- Product text — when you turn on Translate product text, product names, descriptions, categories, and variant options are machine-translated into the shopper's language. Brand names stay unchanged. Text that is already in the shopper's language is left as it is.
- Buttons and labels — buttons such as Add to Cart and status labels such as Out of Stock show in the shopper's language.
- Prices — prices use the shopper's number format, for example "12,50 €" for a French shopper. The currency stays the one in your product feed. Prices are not converted to another currency.
Translation of product text is off by default. To turn it on:
- Open your assistant in the builder.
- Select the Products tab.
- Open the Display section.
- Turn on Translate product text.
- Publish your assistant.
With the switch off, product names, descriptions, categories, and variant options show as they are in your catalog. Price format still follows the shopper's language. Buttons and labels follow the shopper's language for English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian, and Portuguese, and show in English for other languages.
Things to know:
- You cannot review or edit the translations. Test your assistant in each shopper language before you publish. The switch is the only way to control the translations.
- If a shopper changes language during a chat, new cards follow the new language. Cards already shown keep their original language.
- If a translation is not available, the card shows your original catalog text.
